My Practicum
To complete my practicum, I chose to enroll in CPSP359S "Advanced Practicum: Research, Discovery Research." This class was taught by David Eubanks specifically for College Park Scholars students to do a semester-long research project to complete our practicum requirement.
According to the syllabus "Discovery Research is an in-person Scholars practicum for students interested in developing their own research questions and projects and working among a group of peers from all Scholars programs over the course of a full semester." Throughout the semester, my classmates and I would listen to each other's research and provide feedback through peer critique. This would benefit everyone because we all were able to research our own topic but still receive help and guidance from peers. The picture on the right was taken during one of our classes when we had a guest speaker come from University Libraries to do a presentation on special collections and then we were given time to break up into groups and look at some old Scholars documents to decide whether they were worthy of being archived. I chose to upload this picture because it is an example of the activities that we did during this class that helped me learn that there is more to research than just looking online for information. I also learned the importance of having discussions with others to hear multiple points of view on a certain piece of information. |
